And apparently she hasn't met many people. Barney Frank is an outspoken advocate of free speech (even when unpopular) and medical marijuana. Clive Barker is a major supporter of the Comic Books Legal Defense Fund. Richard Gere is all crazy about freedom for Tibet. (You know he is.) I'm sure there are more. You've already made the case that activists in other areas may very well be gay but not bring it up in that context. It's also true that most activists, especially social activists, tend to be personally affected by whatever the issue is. Civil Rights activists tend to be black. Immigration rights activists tend to be immigrants (or the children of immigrants). Women's rights activists tend to have vaginas and those bouncy things up front. And gay rights activists tend to be gay. So if you're listening to an activist you're probably listening to somebody personally affected by the issue at hand. Just like if you're listening to idiocy you're probably listening to an idiot... like Rosanne Barr.
