A lot of union workers that I know drive rust buckets but have nice things
at home like a nice truck/car, boat, quads, bikes, etc... I have been
contemplating doing that very thing, pay cash for some junker economy car
that will carry me to the train station and back (about 75 miles round trip)
and stop paying $150.00 in gas a week. And if the car takes a shit, so what?
Buy another one. This is what the union guys that I know do.

Personally I would never join a union. While the idea of having an advocate
looking out for me regarding benefits and such, I do not like the idea that
if my union rep decides that we are getting the shaft, I have to go on
strike if they tell me to or face the wrath of being labeled a scab. Oh, and
of course he/she is not on strike. They are working (getting paid) on my
spiffy new benefits package while I am living off my savings now. Seen it
happen over and over again with friends of mine.

At least I can be happy knowing that programmers will more than likely not
ever form a union.
