I've lived in other countries. When there I learned their languages and made do. Sure I spoke English when someone's English was better than my attempt at their language. However, when I went to the court house, filled out official papers etc.. it was in their native languages. I believe we need an official language. All legal documents should be in that language. School should be taught in that language. Signs, official communications, drivers license tests, and ballots should all be in a single official language.
China has dozens of dialects. Mandarin is the official dialect. This country has be populated via foreigners from the beginning (Native Americans aside). Germans, French, Irish, Chinese, Japanese etc... until recently they all took the path of learning the language of their new country as well it should be. I speak other languages and am in full support of learning other languages but we should have an official language for official communications. I am tired of having to produce ballots, drivers license tests etc... in multiple languages. It's costly and if people can't read and write English how can they read the signs on the and of the road? Southern California is already Northern Mexico as much as it is Southern California. Part of the land of the price you pay for coming to the land of opportunity should be the opportunity to learn their language and culture. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Create robust enterprise, web RIAs.
