Central London -- Go see Big Ben. Buckingham Palace has a lovely little park
(St. James)just outside its gates. Go see Speaker's Corner in Hyde Park. If you
have time, Kew Gardens and Richmond Park in the West end are are both
beautiful.

There are more palaces than you can shake a stick at. I am pretty sure there is
one in Greenwich, which may be doable in one day trip with Richmond (isn't
there a palace here too?) Azaleas in Richmond Park -- you may arrive at about
the right time to see them. Go see Baker Street. Sherlock Holmes' address was
fictitional, but seems to me there's a museum in that block.

Ride the doubledecker buses. Don't rent a car, public transportation is very
good. Check out Regent Street for shopping. How old is your daughter? The Tate
Gallery and the British Museum are worth a look but are probably beyond the
patience of a two year old. Also perhaps not for a two-year-old -- go look for
Jack the Ripper locations.

And yes, if it is at all possible, get out of London while you are there. I
recommend Glastonbury and Stonehenge for a day trip.

hope that helps
