None of these problems existed prior to our invasion. Iraq was stable. The people were generally safe.
Sure Sadam was an a_hole and killed, tortured or imprisoned thousands of his own people. A decade earlier he killed thousands of Kurds. Talk about something that was not our problem. That was all internal BS. It wasn't great, but when compared to other regimes and situations going on in the world he was far from the worse offender. The average Iraqi could go down to the market without fear of being kidnapped, shot or blown up. We freed them from Sadam and handed them over to a sectarian violence, terrorists, and civil war. We created the mess that is in Iraq today and it is our responsibility to stabilize the country before we pull out. Part of the problem with the Middle East is the West has drawn arbitrary lines in the sand creating political units (countries) that we found advantageous but make no sense. Unfortunately, one of the few viable solutions to the Iraq situation is to further that line of thinking and split it up into 3 entities. Call them what you will essentially they would be used to separate the Kurds, Sunnis and Shiites. Everyone to your own corner. Oil revenue will be split equally amongst all parties. If need be put a UN Peace Keeping Force in a DMZ between the groups. If you are Sunni you have the opportunity to move to Sunniville, Sunnistan whatever, Shiites same thing, Kurds you have the opportunity to move to Kurdistan. Each can establish their own governing bodies, laws etc.. It does nothing for longterm peace. They will gather to fight again. Afterall they always have and probably always will. But it will establish some order so we can get the hell out of dodge and allow them to work it out from a stable starting point. We will have friends in the Kurds, so 1/3 of the country will be pro USA. Who knows about the other 2/3. > I see two sorts of problems in Iraq. > > #1 - those that are caused by us being there. > #2 - Those that are not caused by us being there. > > #1 is easily fixed by withdrawal. > #2 is not our problem to solve. > > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Deploy Web Applications Quickly across the enterprise with ColdFusion MX7 & Flex 2 Free Trial http://www.adobe.com/products/coldfusion/flex2/?sdid=RVJU Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/message.cfm/messageid:234233 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.5
