Your entire premise fails to account for US security interests in the region, which would be seriously damaged by having the battle in Iraq to spill over into neighboring countries. Like past isolationists, you want to pretend that we can pack up and go home and face no further consequences. That is not the case. Al Qaeda is in Iraq. They fear our presence in Iraq because it directly impedes their efforts to turn the entire region into an Islamic state. Big picture- they want to turn the Middle East into an Islamic state, and the US wants to prevent that from happening. Those are the real stakes. If you don't believe that, fine, that's your choice. I personally believe those are the stakes, and we must not fail.
