I tried some sort of black evil-smelling acid once -- it ate a hole in the pipe 
and we had to leave the house (with all the doors and windows open) for about 
six hours, and the drain was *still* stopped up. 

I am kinda afraid to try that again. I do still have the snake, maybe I'll dig 
that up.
