I thought they talked about the possibility of a multi-generational long
term war.

I always expect far higher casualties than "predicted" and have been very
surprised at how low our combat deaths have been.  Then again I'm a
paratrooper.  We were told to expect 60% casualties on the dropzone, out of
a division of 15,000.

I don't think about money when I think about war.

Regardless of the specific I'm curious to know what the war supporters
thought at the time.  Are you implying that you impression was
something along this line:

* 90% of our active and reserve will be tied up for a decade or more.
* It'll likely cost $1 Trillion or more
* We can expect 10,000+ dead Americans

If not, what was your impression of the troops, dollar, and lives spend?
