Not for nothing but did you physically examine the unit? After 6-8 months of not being used all sorts of things can work themselves into that thing (usually with the help of small children). If the motor is getting hot that probably means it's trying to spin (unless you've burned it out of course) - make sure the fan isn't stuck on something. (When the unit is OFF!) try spinning the fan by hand - it should move easily.
