Here's an interesting story, maybe false: Awhile back (20 years?) a group of investors including Eddie Bauer bought an island in the San Juan chain just off the coast of Washington State, Speiden Island.
Their idea was to create a big game hunting resort that would allow people to go on Safari without leaving the country so they built an airport, hotel, and imported all kinds of fun-to-kill animals. (Eddie had the sense to sell out after as he saw how things were being developed). Well, the residents of the San Juans didn't like the idea at all and held protests as well as tried to get it shut down; however the hunting was legal and none of the animals were endangered so the hunting continued. Then, one day, a hunter came to the island who had ordered a leopard to shoot. Leopards had just been put on the endangered list and the San Juan protesters were able to take pictures and have the island confiscated and closed down. Alaska Airlines came along and bought the island as a rest stop for their pilots and crew. As part of the sale the government "cleansed" the island by hiring sharp shooters to kill all the animals who were over-running the island. Things went fine for awhile. But then Alaska Airlines went bankrupt. So billionaire James Jannard stepped in an bought it for $40,000,000. Unfortunately the sharp shooters hadn't done their job and the herds still continued to run the island. And, unfortunately for the animals, Jannard's wife hated them so Jannard had local hunters come in and shoot the animals, dumping their carcasses over the side into the sea. (The residents didn't like that, nor the shooting, so now they have hunters come in occasionally.) Jannard decided to turn the island into a doomsday shelter and dug a 100 foot deep bunker that he had sealed with a massive blast door, has 7 years of food and water, an elevator down to it etc. Apparently he's got an airplane on stand-by in California that can get him there lickety-split. But it gets better! 9/11 happens and the residents notice a military marked Harrier jet land on the island. They also notice a Navy frigate circling the island soon after. That combined with some other circumstantial evidence has everyone convinced that Spiden Island was Cheney's secret location during 9/11. That's what the locals say anyway. Either way, here are some cool pics of the island and its wildlife: http://www.flickr.com/photos/grussgott/sets/72157600304580523/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Upgrade to Adobe ColdFusion MX7 Experience Flex 2 & MX7 integration & create powerful cross-platform RIAs http://www.adobe.com/products/coldfusion/flex2/?sdid=RVJQ Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/message.cfm/messageid:235959 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.5
