I think they are more interested in "being cool" than MSFT. These two
companies reflect the personalities of their founders. Gates sees himself as
a dork who sees utility in computing and doesn't mind artlessly crushing the
competition. Jobs sees himself as a hipster who sells products for other
hipsters. Are you cool enough to buy an Apple? That is Apple brand strategy
in a nutshell.
