I have Eric Meyer's "Cascading Style Sheets, The Definitive Guide" from O'Reilly. It is a very good book for explaining how CSS works. CSS is a PITA, largely for the same reason that AJAX is a PITA- conformance to standards. Be prepared to have testing done from lots of different browsers- IE 6, IE 7, Firefox, Opera, Safari, IE for Mac. I also suggest at least one Javascript book like the O'Reilly Definitive Guide.
