It's 85% Ethanol, 15% gasoline. The reason that the gas mileage is lower is that Ethanol doesn't burn as efficiently as gasoline, nor does it have the same energy per volume as gasoline.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E85 It's not accurate that Octane = mileage, Octane = a smoother running engine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating#Effects_of_octane_rating E85 is a band aid, the real answer is to find something that burns with the same efficiency as fossil fuels but is renewable, or better yet do away with internal combustion all together. -- Scott Stewart ColdFusion Developer SSTWebworks 7241 Jillspring Ct. That's an ethanol blend of some kind right? But you are saying it's higher octane? If it's higher octane, wouldn't you be getting BETTER gas mileage? I'm confuzzled.
