I've started watching video podcasts through iTunes since, sadly, all I have is a 4th gen iPod. Interestingly enough, video through iTunes shoots the cpu to 100% and the framerate sucks. But if I open the same file in quicktime, my cpu stays under 20% and I have a good framerate. Very confusing since I thought that iTunes uses quicktime to playback everything.
