Honestly, I don't see it that way at all. This is a faith that is based in the belief that Jesus was the incarnate son of god, that he left the church to his apostles and (Paul?) went on to found that church. They truly believe that the church was handed down through Paul and that without that connection you aren't in the true church. I have heard/seen far crazier things in other religions.
I mean, hell, at least he admitted that the orthodox Christians are actually a part of the church, that had been a point of contention for years. -- Timothy J.
