In order to take a train from Albuquerque to New Orleans -- about 1600 miles east by southeast afaik -- you have to change trains in either Los Angeles or Chicago. Scratch that.
Aiplanes aren't much better -- lowest fare means changing planes in Minneapolis. (?)
