I listened to a speech today on NPR and I have to reaffirm my belief
that this is one of the few people in politics that both understands
the Iraqi situation and is a-political on executing a solution.

He has a photographic knowledge of the Iraqi constitution, understands
and is in regular contact with all of the major and minor factions, as
well as has a huge knowledge reservoir of foreign policy history.

One great quote was when he was asked why was consistently not voting
with his party when it came to some specific votes on funding. His
response was uncharacteristically brief: "There are many things worth
losing elections over. Iraq is one of them."

On a comedic side note, he was also asked if Obama's meet-anyone quote
was naive. His response: "yes."
