I don't know what the UCS is, and I'm NOT talking about the attorney
general! YOU brought him up. I"m talking science, and specifically NASA
scientists and the past surgeon general.

As for specifics, what exactly do you want? The direct quotes from NASA
scientists who have complained about the Bush administrations filtering of
their findings? I can give you those if you want....

The Bush administration is trying to stifle scientific evidence of the
dangers of global warming in an effort to keep the public uninformed, a NASA
scientist said.

"In my more than three decades in government, I have never seen anything
approaching the degree to which information flow from scientists to the
public has been screened and controlled as it is now," James Hansen told a
University of Iowa audience.

Hansen is director of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New
York and has twice briefed a task force headed by Vice President Dick Cheney
on global warming. He was also one of the first government scientists tasked
with briefing congressional committees on the dangers of global warming,
testifying as far back as the 1980s.

You want the specifics from the Surgeon General? Okee dokee.....

The first US surgeon general appointed by President Bush accused the
administration of political interference and muzzling him on key issues like
embryonic stem cell research.

"Anything that doesn't fit into the political appointees' ideological,
theological or political agenda is ignored, marginalized or simply buried,"
Dr. Richard Carmona, who served as the nation's top doctor from 2002 until
2006, told a House of Representatives committee.

"The problem with this approach is that in public health, as in a democracy,
there is nothing worse than ignoring science, or marginalizing the voice of
science for reasons driven by changing political winds. The job of surgeon
general is to be the doctor of the nation, not the doctor of a political
party," Carmona added.

Carmona said Bush administration political appointees censored his speeches
and kept him from talking out publicly about certain issues, including the
science on embryonic stem cell research, contraceptives and his misgivings
about the administration's embrace of "abstinence-only" sex education.

Please give me your takes on both of these specific incidents, since you
want to deal in specifics. Tell me if you believe both of these men to be
lying, and if so, why, and what evidence you have to support that. On the
other hand, if you believe the men to be telling the truth, please explain
to me why you find this kind of behavior by the administration to be
acceptable?

I await your response.
