I thought the same thing ... I put my basic profile up without really
thinking it would benefit me. Forgot about it for a while.

Then I got a few invites and thought "eh, what the hey ..."

The very next day after completing all the fields in the profile I got three
leads for new work through people searching on LinkedIn ...

That sold me. I think the point is more for business networking ... Facebook
and MySpace are geared more toward teens/college-age social partying scene,
even though companies use those networks. This seems to be more specifically
for hooking up businesses/business people.
