I'm not sure why you think you have to give them up... there are dozens of
options.

The most popular, I think by far, is CygWin which gives you a surprisingly
complete Linux-like environment in Windows.  Although at the same time
Windows Power Shell (formerly Monad) is a much more logical, powerful shell.
(Not being raised with it I find the Unix shell to be one of the most
flippant, fickle beasts I've ever touched... but that's just my opinion.)

The long as short of it is that all the major OSes allow you to choose from
a number of popular command line shells and automation scripting languages.
