I really like Windows Media Player 11 - not just "use it because I have it"
but really, truly prefer it.

For me I turn on "Update Media Information from the Internet" but select
"Only Update Missing Information" (sometimes the online information is
wrong). I also use "Rename music files using Rip Music Settings" but DON'T
let it rearrange my music files. I set the Rip Music settings to only use
the song title - I prefer to use playlists to manage everything.

One of my favorite places is http://amiestreet.com/ (it doesn't integrate
with the player tho') It's basically a music broker: songs start at zero
cents and raise in price (up to 98 cents) as they get popular. It's almost
exclusively indie stuff but with most full albums less than $3.00 it's cheap
to experiment.

Free samples are long and you get store credit for reviewing music. Really
nice system. Check out Mark Aaron James:

I heard "Aquaman's Lament" on Pandora and had to buy it. "Somewhere Over
PA" is also a haunting song: it's from the point of view of a communication
satellite routing the last calls from the 9/11 passengers. Very powerful.

There are about a dozen stores integrated into Windows Media Player. Each
needs a separate account but once set up integrates pretty well (depending
on how "unique" the store wants to be). Napster tries to take over the
experience while something like payplay.fm is less dominating.

I've not tried "Urge" (the "main" store). I just don't listen enough to
warrant one of those "all access pass"services but they are tempting.
