The point of the electoral college was to attempt to ensure that Presidential candidates didn't ignore lesser populated areas of the US back when news didn't reach someplace until, possibly, months after it happened. These days, every time Britney flashes her vajayjay, the entire World sees it 10 seconds later. Thus, the electoral is no longer needed.
