No, but it works both ways. I am also irritated at some of the crap they
choose to include instead of what they leave out. Donkey Kong .. er King
Kong was way too long. We get it. Kong is a bad-ass. An extra 30 minutes
of him fighting some freakin' dinosaurs isn't going to make him even more
bad-ass in our minds. The Star Wars movies also suffered from this. We
don't need an underwater monster chase, or a 20 minute pod race, or a
pointless romp through an asteroid field to be filler because the
writer/director couldn't be bothered to concentrate more on character
development and meaningful dialog.

That being said, the HP movies can't be long enough. There is just so much
going on. I don't see how they are going to cover everything in Half Blood
Prince, or the last one. It will be interesting/frustrating to see what
gets left out. Rise of the Silver Surfer .. what the heck? I don't think
it is possible to make it any shorter. I am sure anyone not familiar with
the silver surfer storyline was like, "huh?". I don't remember seeing
anything in the way of extra footage on the DVD. Was that it? Lord of the
Rings got it about right. The original movies stood on their own, but the
extra content on the DVD was enjoyable still. I also agree with you about
Aliens and The Abyss. Those movies were served greatly by putting the
'extra' stuff back in.
