Oh, I dunno, look at Christianity, Paul and John vastly disagreed:

* Paul said that "heaven" and "the light" was within each person and
so to "reach the light" one had to go on a journey of self-discovery.
He uses Jesus' quote, "only when one truly knows thyself will they
know heaven", to support his philosophy. Paul was a "Gnostic", or
truth finder, and said that evil was simply the acts of those who knew
themselves least rather than works of Satan.

* John painted a punitive view Christianity: act according to God's
law or burn in hell. Satan will return Earth and lay waste to all,
Armageddon, and there'll be a rapture for the true believers.

So who won? John, of course (Matthew, Mark, Luke and ... John - not
Paul). In some ways, John was the Bush of his generation: use fear,
uncertainty, and doubt to control people. John's views live on to
this day and directly influence our elections. 2000 years later.

So, it's quite possible that Bush's inept and moronic ideas will live
on forever. Why? Because, as it turns out, some people just aren't
that smart and Bush's manner of convoluted logic (correlation must
equal causation) appeals to them and they become religious about it.
