Just hypothesizing here but... 1) they were MUCH more prepared, because of recent fires and improvements SINCE Katrina 2) they are much more affluent, and have much better means to see to their comfort and safety 3) the shelters where they are staying are actually out of the disaster area, vs. the superdome which was smack dab in the middle of the disaster itself.
