It's actually quite easy.  The platforming is organic, not twitch (think
more like "Jak and Daxter" rather than "Mario").  There are some quick
jumping sections with the Gelinator (a weapon that creates jello-like cubes
which act as trampolines) but only a very few (nothing is so over used as to
outlive it's novelty in the game).

There's no button mashing at all.  One button controls the wrench (melee
attack) and another shoots the current weapon.  The triangle, when pressed
quickly, swaps between the lat weapons and when held pauses the action to
allow you to choose a new weapon.  If you've ever played any "Ratchet and
Clank" game then this is the same as far as controls.

Rent it and give it a try!
