I actually see the tuck rule called with relative frequency these days. It is a legit and well-understood rule.
What sucks are the "judgement call" rules, because a ref can do whatever they want with those. And no, the Patriots are not that good. They looked old and slow on defense, and the offense looked out of sync until Rex Ryan inexplicably started playing the prevent "I want to lose the game" defense on the final drive.
