So, quite an off-season for the Detroit Tigers. Third base was a weakness - at least offensively. Now the Tigers have Miguel Cabrera, whom I can only describe as a "stud". Good for 30 homers, 100 RBI, solid batting average and on base...
Carlos Guillen was a pathetic defensive shortstop. Now we have Edgar Renteria, who can hit pretty well and is excellent defensively too. Sean Casey was slow as molasses, had no power, and a crappy on base percentage. Well now we've got Guillen's offensive power at a position where he will hopefully cause less damage defensively :) How's this for a top 7 lineup: #1 Curtis Granderson (CF) #2 Miguel Cabrera (3B/LF) #3 Carlos Guillen (1B) #4 Gary Sheffield (DH) #5 Magglio Ordonez (RF) #6 Edgar Renteria (SS) #7 Placido Polanco (2B) #8 - Ivan Rodriguez (C) #9 - Jones / Thames/ Inge (LF/3B) And now the starting rotation with Dontrell Willis looks solid too... Jeremy Bonderman Justin Verlander Dontrell Willis Kenny Rogers Nate Robertson (in no particular order).... Now if only we had a closer who didn't SUCK.. The bullpen has me worried, with Zumaya out (and we wonder if he'll ever come back at 100%)... Jones is always a rollercoaster ride. But one things for sure... the Tigers are a LOT better suited to contend this year. They gave up the farm for Willis and Cabrera, but I think it might've been worth it... it's not like we traded the farm for two old farts.... these are young stars, age 25 and 26.
