I like Gogol Bordello, really interesting stuff. If you like off the beaten
path, up and coming bands you should definitely check out Rodrigo y
Gabriella. They've been around for a little bit so the hard core indie folks
will say "been there, done that, saw them busking and bought the 7 inch" but
they are great live and recorded. A guy and a woman from Mexico City. They
meet and bond over a shared love of Metal. But both have a significant
background in traditional Spanish/Mexican music, both guitar players. They
move to Dublin on a relative whim and work the streets as buskers, getting
discovered along the way.

Result: acoustic guitar work (no other instruments) done in style that has
strong elements of Flamenco but has a very modern undercurrent and a drive
that nods its head towards heavy metal. Lots of percussive guitar work, very
heavy intermixing latin and 4/4 rhythms, very interesting stuff. All
instrumental, no vocals.

Best praise I have for them: they include a cover of Stairway to Heaven on
their first album. And in my opinion it isn't boring, trite or overwraught.
That impressed the hell out of me.
