I'm still hoping too... my son has been kind of stick-in-the-mud lately and doesn't want to go out much. I'm cutting him some slack since he does quite a bit (basketball, soccer, school stuff, etc) but if he doesn't get it in gear soon I'm going to go without him. ;^) > Having seen the movie, I'm stunned that (some) Christians are so upset > by it. I'm sure the ones who are upset have not actually seen it and > therefore they're spreading a lot of FUD about the movie based on > hearsay (which has tended to be the pattern for a number of movies > that radical religious groups have boycotted). To be fair the (major) groups in question really had no problem with the film. Instead they claim that the film was devoid of the questionable material to sell the books - they termed it a "stealth campaign". The ironic thing, of course, is that the studio refused to make the movie unless the anti-religious message of the book was all but eliminated specifically in an attempt to avoid offending people. So in effect it's they, not the author, that should be rightfully blamed for the movies diluted message. > I thought it was a great adventure movie and rather uplifting. I look > forward to the two sequels. I'm hoping to read the book first but I'd like to see it on the big screen. One thing I can say for certain: stay far, far away from the games based on the movie. They're frightfully awful... although apparently there's some aspect of the ending, religiously offensive from what I've heard, that was filmed but DIDN'T make the final cut of the movie. This scene (whatever it contains) apparently did make it into the ending of the game - it's out on YouTube but I'm not about spoil things for myself. Still, since you saw the movie you might want to take a peek.
