My common, somewhat comical, response is usually to say that I'm a
Jeffersonian radical - minimal government, no political parties, no
income tax, privacy in all transactions. I think all government
servants should be just that: servants to the people, not masters.

Some would say that makes me a conservative, but that is negated by my
position on war - I think that anyone who wages war aggressively is a
monster and should be removed from society. I think the only reason
for a standing army is to protect the citizens from those monsters. I
see arms manufacturers and weapons dealers a crime lords of the worst
sort, and that includes today's huge arms sell by Shrub to the Saudis.

I'm also somewhat Utopian, in a no-borders, one world kind of way.
I'd like to see us take the money squandered on war and greed, and
turn this planet into a beautiful garden where no one is hungry, or
suffering needlessly. I'm not a big fan of money, though I've
acquired a bit. I think the current economic system puts too much in
the hands of too few. But I don't have any communistic or Marxist
leanings. The "from each according to his ability, to each according
to his needs" would only reduce us all to the level of those who
simply will not contribute.

I don't fit anywhere politically. I don't like George Bush, or any of
the republican candidates. I don't like Hilary Clinton or any of the
democrats. There is not a single person running for office that I can
feel comfortable voting for. Not a single person on the political
scene would embrace my positions on any of the major topics. I could
explain more in depth, but I suspect I would bore most of the people
here. But I know for certain that the label liberal, as it is
currently used by those like Sam who use it almost as a swear word,
does not approach describing my politics.
