I'd like to think not. I think alot of people fall under the influence of brainwashing mostly because they are weakened somehow physically, emotionally, financially, and are more susceptible in that state than others. Alot of cults weaken people and break them down by making them give up possessions and they also tend to prey on people who are already in a weakened state emotionally maybe because of something traumatic that's happened to them or perhaps because they are a bit of an outcast socially.
Once someone's weakened the cult can then build them back up and "help them" overcome whatever it was that was their weakness in the first place. The help may be real help, but obviously there are strings attached to the help, plus you feel indebted to the helper, or perhaps develop a mentor or parent mentality who the person who helped you. Suddenly that person has influence over your actions and can deepen that influence if done right. Once they are indoctrinated then they can serve to bring additional people into the fold. I think many people, in the right circumstances, could be broken in this way. People are more vulnerable after losing a loved one or after a traumatic event like a car crash or even a natural disaster like Katrina. Even people who would not have otherwise been susceptible become vulnerable at that point. That's really where having a good support network of trusted friends and family come into the picture, but not everyone has that... I don't think I would ever be vulnerable to something like that, but it's amazing what can happen to the human mind given the right circumstances. -Cameron G Money wrote: > Put another way, if you or I were immersed in their > brainwashing....would we > come under their spell? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Adobe® ColdFusion® 8 software 8 is the most important and dramatic release to date Get the Free Trial http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;160198600;22374440;w Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/message.cfm/messageid:251276 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Community/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.5
