Sounds like a dead battery on the CMOS... I've never heard of one on the
XBox personally but I wouldn't be surprised.  When an XBox starts to go it's
almost always from heat - what component fails first just seems to be a
matter of luck.

I'm on my fourth... after buying two (I didn't get the extended warranty for
the first unit and bought another before they extended it).  All you can do
it get a replacement and cross your fingers.
