1) The writer obviously does not understand Star Trek. She does not see the
series in it's historical context, which is not that far off from a global
war that nearly destroyed the human race, set it back centuries in
development and was only saved by quick advances in technology. Also, the
series must deal with the large gap in human behavior between the original
series and TNG, the baudy Kirk vs. the cerebal Picard, for example. The
humans are closer to 20th Century behavor than 23rd. And rightfully so.
Also, there is not yet a Federation or a Prime Directive -- proper decorum
in space travel hasn't even begun to be defined.

2) The writer has also not paid close attention to what's actually happening
in the show. For example, Hoshi is not (or was not) a member of the military
before becoming a member of the Enterprise crew, so of course she has no
training in anything military.

3) My main complaint with this piece is that it's just another example of
liberal, ultra-sensitive political correctness. Everything must be PC. If
you dont' confirm to the PC code, you are some how defective. It's a bit of
liberal bias that is totally revolting.
