The authors are of the opinion that the states would eventually switch to a similar system. Interestingly enough, they also believe that liberals will eventually champion the fair tax since it destroys tax shelters, social security caps, taxes anyone who spends money including drug dealers and foreigners, etc. "And if the answer to that challenge is so complex that I have to reada book to answer it then how is it any easier than the existing tax which I also have to read a book to understand?" The whole book, which is a short read anyway, isn't just about the fair tax code. There are lots of examples of IRS abuse of citizens, a history of the current tax system, a history of the fair tax, etc. Plus, it has been written to be read, unlike the current tax code. If you don't want to set the time aside to read it, which I can totally understand, pick up the book tape from the library.
