While I admit that he does have some liberal leanings, considering the other two viable candidates (Romney and Huckleberry) I like McCain the best for several reasons. Some of the ways we went a liberal way are of course:
Border security/illegal aliens. But come one everyone, let's get serious about this. I know what a lot of the candidates *say* they would do, but why do the candidates have to keep saying they favor new laws on immigration when the current laws are not being enforced? At least Thompson came out and said that he is only interested in enforcing the laws we have, but alas he dropped out. That is something that I would like to see our elected officials do, fully enforce the laws we already have. Oh, and quit arresting border patrol agents for doing their freaking job. Abortion: I am aware that he has changed his views both ways, but this is another subject that will always be a sticky one. And again, does anyone ever believe that Rowe V Wade will ever be overturned? If it is, then there will be thousands of illegal abortions rather than thousands of legal ones. Now I am a pro-lifer, but I also am a realist, and the reality is that there will always be women who for whatever reason will get an abortion, legal or not. Christianity: Don't care as long as the leader is not an atheist, agnostic or any other non-main stream religion. Gay Marriage: This is one of the issues that me and my religion have differences on, but I am very biased in this. My youngest brother and my best friends brother are both gay and I love these guys to death. I also believe that people are wired to be straight or gay and thus not a lifestyle choice. Besides, I could care less what your sexual orientation is. Campaign Finance Reform: I don't agree with him on this but oh well. I am sure you all are going to dig up other issues, but the bottom line is, just like the last election, I am going to pick the lesser of the evils.
