It's one of those jokes you wait and wait and wait for, and the punchline is such an incredibly *stupid* pun that it makes you literally cringe, but you (hopefully) find it clever enough to tell someone else later on, after you get the sour taste out of your mouth.
I came up with the premise for this joke a few months ago, and the family thought that: 1) People would have to know French history to understand it, but if they were astute enough to have learned French history then they're probably not the kind of people who would find this funny, 2) That set of people would be further reduced to the subset that also remembered the "Royale with cheese" line from Pulp Fiction, but the world's French history-loving, Pulp Fiction-watching crowd would probably fit into our living room, and 3) That subset would then be reduced again to the one or two people on earth who would also know that "chi" is the Chinese term for "Life Force," and finally, 4) Those two people wouldn't find the joke funny, either. I just thought, perhaps beyond all hope, that the CF Community crowd was so much more sophisticated that you would all hail it as the funniest and most clever joke you've ever heard in your entire lives.
