Have you tried to use Flickr with all it's glory? The Pro version? Sets, different photo sizes, organization, tagging ability, search ability, the display, I can go on and on. The newest and neatest tool is the integrated editor for quick stuff: cropping, red eye, frames, filters, etc.
I like the email upload, ability to post from my phone, integrate with blogs, the groups, the commenting, the email updates. It's a community, not just a photo gallery. Got to use it wholly with an open mind before you might get some of those things or perhaps understand why a creative person might actually like the whole experience ....
