The superdelegates have long been a part of the Democratic Party's nomination process; in fact, conflict between the superdelegates and delegates at large was one of the reasons for the tensions at the 1968 Democratic National Convention.
Superdelegates are receiving more media time than usual this year because it is such a tight race between Hillary and Obama.
