Some of the oldest toys found mimic adult tools and as you said, accurately 
resembled every day things/experiences. For instance child sized bows and other 
kid sized tools have been found in neolithic burial sites. One of the sadder 
instances (in my mind) was one set of remains of a very young girl had a doll 
carefully placed beside it.
