That got me thinking about how well the #1 overall seed has faired the last few years.....
I think in either '96 or '98, Kentucky was the #1 seed and won it all. '97 was the crazy year that Zona beat 3 #1's Connecticut was the preseason #1 in '99, but Duke was the #1 ranked team most of the year, before UCONN beat them in the champ. I think Duke might have been the #1 seed in 2001, was Maryland #1 in 2002? Syracuse was definitely not #1 in 2003. UConn might have been in 2004. In 2005, #1 played #2 when UNC "upset" Illinois. Florida came out of nowhere in 2006, and I think OSU was ranked #1 in 2007.
