sorry to chime in late here. first, the suggestion that somehow black folks have it easy in this country is absurd on its face and ought to be offensive to any educated person.
as to the question of race, I agree with your thought. the color of someone's skin is irrelevant. their cultural experience and perspective in society is totally relevant, and for my money that is why so many people are excited about obama. here we have a bright, educated, articulate guy who has a compelling vision for the country, and as a bonus he brings a cultural perspective that has had little play at the highest levels of national politics. his perspective matters because he can articulate something other than the majority mainstream cultural perspective on this country without it being about race.
