You don't have to delve into conspiracy theory to imagine one data collector syndicating his data to other data collectors, who then employ business intelligence to learn more about you and your family than you know yourself. And once RFID (or similar technology) really gets going everywhere at the consumer goods level, and home appliances begin to utilize them, and the data collector those appliances communicate with are syndicated, combined, and analyzed as well...
One holy grail of sales is the ability to signal a person walking or driving down a street, and offer them a discounted sale on something they themselves claim to need, before they come to the store offering the item. Another is to automatically reorder goods regularly consumed in the home, thereby bringing consumer-level Just-in-time inventory to the home. Whoever can convince you to "just relax" while your life is managed for you gains a tremendous amount of power and control over you. It becomes a de facto permission to spend your money they way they claim you want to. And once you start paying attention to your transactions only by exception, you're their slave. And by that time, you're happy to be one.
