I've noticed in Robotics Magazine that the craft has really taken off.
There is a plethora of high-end kits, very advanced controller boards,
servos, motors, and supply houses where you can find them. Clubs are
springing up all over, and even corporate sponsorships are taking off.

The newest thing is to become an amateur machinist and buy your own Sherline
CNC setup so you can build anything you want right from your computer.
Sherline has a complete setup including the computer, lathe, and milling
machine, for under $5K.

You can thank the combination of the Mars Rovers and Lego Mindstorms NXT for
most of this.
