This storm partially flattened a loft complex close to mine in Atlanta.
According to Google maps, I like 2.7 miles from CNN center and .9 miles
from the Cotton Mill Lofts that were ker-plonked. Alot of buildings in
that part of town (called Cabbagetown) were destroyed or damaged by the
storm.

The storm also sucked the glass windows out of alot of the taller
buildings in that part of town, exposing their insides to the wind and
rain and sucking office stuffs outta the building. A company I use to
work for just got the entire penthouse level of the Equitable building
in downtown that was one of the ones hit. I don't know if their offices
got trashed by the storm or not.

I was sitting at home when the tornadoes hit. My sliding glass patio
door was open and the power had gone out already. I was hanging out on
the sofa enjoying the sounds of the hard rain outside and chatting with
a friend who'd come over for dinner that night. At one point a VERY
hard wind blew into the room for about 20 seconds, throwing the vertical
blinds all over the place. We sat up and took notice but chalked it up
to a random wind gust.

We didn't hear any warning and didn't have any idea a tornado had hit
till both of our phones started ringing with our family members calling
to check on us. I was just like "Huh? Why wouldn't I be okay?" After
finding out what had happened I put two and two together and got out a
wind-up radio I have had for years. We sat there and listened to the
news reports till the winding action ran out.

The power didn't come back on till 9AM. The stuff in my fridge survived
the 9 hour power loss (I think). Sniff testing continues....
