Chapter 1

Mayor, Kevin Krackle stared down the long tired stretch of Main Street from
the shelter of his front porch. It was a hot and dusty time. No code for
months. The programs were dead and the people of K-Town were wilting fast.
The street seemed deserted with most of the town hiding inside, staring at
their blank screens.

Mayor Krackle needed to boost his people's spirits fast. But what could one
do in the heat of the nastiest summer in recent history? And with no code?
The computer games were gone, it was too blasted hot for a picnic in the
park, and there wasn't any laptops left anyway. People wouldn't want to set
blankets on the hard, baked ground with no games to play.

Everyone was getting grumpy. Even his best friend, Sheriff Kyle Karrot was
starting to get edgy.

As he turned to go back into the shelter of his mayoral residence, he saw a
big cloud of dust stirring on the horizon, getting ready to cross the bridge
of the now dry K-Town Kreek.

"Who could this possibly be?" Mayor Krackle wondered to himself.

He continued to stand and watch the approach of the huge clouds of billowing
dust until suddenly, in all of its swirling, choking wonder, it stopped
right at his front gate.

As the dust settled, Mayor Krackle watched a cowboy, all dressed in white,
with silver buckles and spurs, climb down off of the blackest horse he'd
ever seen. The unbelievable thing was that neither of them were covered with
a speck of the hateful orange dust that everyone in town seemed to be
wearing these days.

"Howdy Mayor Krackle!" the cowboy said as he tipped his white stetson
respectfully. "I'm Todd. Todd Treackle from the Crazy K, about 30 miles
south of here. I hear you folks are having a dickens of the time with
code-block."

"Well, good afternoon to you, young man. Yups, that's about right. We've not
had any good code in these parts since March. I'm afraid that if we don't
get any soon, our programs will completely dry up and this town will soon
follow."

"Well," said Todd Treackle with a mysterious grin, "I may be able to help
you out then."

"How do you propose to that son?" said Mayor Krackle dubiously.

"Follow me and I shall show you ... " and Todd Treackle turned around to
jump back on Python, as he waited for Mayor Krackle to saddle up.

Mayor Krackle mounted his trusty steed Fusion, and hoped this nice young man
could indeed help the town out of its current dilemma ... he just hoped he
wasn't headed towards a .Net trap.......
