I heard Jon Cryer talking about that film on Adam Carrolla a few
weeks/months ago.

He said that the first choice for casting "Duckie" was Robert Downy
Jr., apparently Molly Ringwald was heavily involved in the casting
choices. He wasn't available, so they went with Jon. He also said that
in the original cut/script Duckie does get the girl, but she insisted
that it would be a bad character choice. Apparently this is also in
the anniversary DVD interviews.

So they reshot the ending, and Duckie loses.

And I like that ending better, because it rang truer. (I *was* Duckie
in highschool)
