1976... Harlingen Movie Theater, Harlingen, Texas... Saturday evening leave from Marine Military Academy... Uniform of the day: Green "Charlie" Age: 15... Movie playing: Carrie.
When that bloody arm came out of the ground and grabbed Amy Irving's arm at the end of the movie, every single girl in that audience screamed bloody murder, and I flinched so hard I couldn't believe it. The next night a different group of us went, and everyone had already seen it once except Crumpler, who sat between me and another cadet. For some reason, he and I just knew to look at each other right beforehand and motion toward Crumpler, who say transfixed. The arm popped out -- and we both grabbed Crumpler's arms and shook them, screaming into his ears. He jumped straight up out of his seat and yelled loudly, pulling his arms away, then came down and landed a butt cheek hard on the armrest. He freaked out and was about as pissed as I ever saw him. We laughed our asses off, and he was steaming.
