Of course you do, but how is that determined? What you see and believe is
coloured or determined by your beliefs and attitudes. You have a set of biases
that slant your interpretation of what you see. It works even at the cellular
level. Under the right circumstances, just by talking with you, I can have you
look at a stationary light and have you perceive it as moving throughout the
room. How we think operates on a similar set of mechanisms. So when I get that
gut level reaction to something, I immediately question that conclusion.

How much of that informed opinion is subject to subtle manipulation? A lot more
than people realize.

Exactly. But also be skepical of all sides and look at the data is my
philosopy. I look at how things are manipulated. Just by presenting slightly
more time to one side than another creates an expectational set with many
people.

Also look at how the issues are presented, how much time is spent on one side
or another, the presenters etc. What bothers me is how much is this becoming a
technology now. For instance advertisers and both political parties are now
using SPECT and other brain scanning technologies to better craft their message
and to ensure that it becomes dominant. Don't you find that at the very least
disturbing. Or are you not bothered by this sort of manipulation.

The point is that Brave New World and 1984 had nothing against what we have now
for manipulating opinions and voter or consumer behavior. I try and avoid being
a manipulated like a puppet.
