That is really sad. It is hard to lose a companion like that. I remember losing our matriarchal dachshund Heidi when she was 15. My parents breed her for many years and it was sad to lose a family member that had been there my whole life.
We just moved into a house were we can now have pets and my worst fear is getting a dog and then having to deal with a death and having to explain that to my kids.
